ids must be unique where as class can be applied to many things. In CSS, ids look like #elementID and class elements look like .someClass
In general, use id whenever you want to refer to a specific element and class when you have a number of things that are all alike. For instance, common id elements are things like header, footer, sidebar. Common class elements are things like highlight or external-link.
It's a good idea to read up on the cascade and understand the precedence assigned to various selectors: http://www.w3.org/TR/CSS2/cascade.html(valider les liens)
The most basic precedence you should understand, however, is that id selectors take precedence over class selectors. If you had this: (gb)

Caveat: An applied WikiStyle will only take effect if it's on the line that starts the thing it's supposed to modify. In other words, a WikiStyle in the third markup line of a paragraph can't change the attributes of the paragraph: (gb)

Note, the (:div style="..." class="...":) directive does not work the same way as >>WikiStyle<<, it can only contain the regular HTML style and class attributes. (gb)

Enabling Styles
Styles not listed above can be enabled by a PmWiki Administrator by modifying the local/config.php file. For instance to enable the "line-height" style attribute add the following line to the local/config.php file: $WikiStyleCSS[] = 'line-height'; Defining scope for other HTML elements
You can add additional HTML elements to $WikiStyleApply to apply WikiStyles to other HTML elements. For example to allow styling on table rows, or anchor tags. To apply styling to anchor tags, place in config.php: $WikiStyleApply['link'] = 'a';
